People need stories. It’s one of the things that make us who we are. […] They entertain us and they change us, as they have changed and entertained for thousands of years.

Neil Gaiman, The Singing Bones by Shaun Tan

Annie here! Thanks so much for taking a nosey around my blog. It is very much a working progress so be kind and throw any suggestions my way.

I’m 26 and currently living in Liverpool and from an early age have been besotted by books. They have held my hand through years in one way or another and will continue to be my faithful companion. I am fortunate enough to work for a Reading charity aiming to bring literature to all. My work absolutely renders my life beautiful and I feel so grateful that books are present in all aspects of my life.

I’ve had an idea to write a review-style blog for a while now. I have found that blogging and free-writing in the past has given me a source of comfort, joy, clarity and confusion which in turn enable me to turn towards areas of my life and allow me to dive into the depths of my soul (deep I know… I am somewhat of a philosopher and most of my previous blogging attempts end in existential crises)!

So what will this blog be?

  1. A place for me to share thoughts and ideas on literature I have read.
  2. Organic and honest.
  3. Potentially a forum for sharing? (not sure how WP can do this yet so more learning required)

The name of this Blog ‘Dream & Thing’ comes from a favourite poem of mine by Edwin Muir:

I take real comfort in the line “that everything is much like everything” and hope to bring out “each separate splendour” that moves me and touches me through my reading (a more detailed post on this poem in the ‘poetry’ page).

Thanks for Reading,
